Následne ho policajt podľa všetkého udrel obuškom do nôh. Krátko na to ho zhodil na zem, pričom Tomlinson padol hlavou na chodník - napriek tomu, že nekládol žiaden odpor a demonštrácie sa vôbec nezúčasťnoval. Po tom, ako mu okoloidúci ľudia pomohli späť na nohy, sa ešte krátky čas zmätene prechádzal po ulici, onedho však stratil vedomie a odpadol. Samozřejmě, že si jeho chování policie mohla vysvětlit jako provokaci, to ovšem neznamená, že ji to opravňuje k tomu, aby na něj pustila psa a zezadu ho shodila na zem! Nebyla to úmyslná vražda, ale jako zabití z nedbalosti by se to charakterizovat mohlo, pokud by se při pitvě zjistilo, že Tomlinsonovo úmrtí mělo nějakou souvislost s jeho pádem.
